5:30 AM Mom is at HotMess working out, Dad gets ready for football practice, he is the head coach, we have 3 boys: an 8 year old -Major, 6 year old- Legend and 3 year old- Maze , they feel the football in the air and are up waiting at the door….because of course they are going with Dad
6 AM everyone is out the door….of course I meet them practice after HOTMESS, thats family time. Two hours of football practice, one hour of personal workout time for dad and the boys, rules are no whining, no crying, if you fall get up, if your not sweating your not working hard enough, and no breaks…..
10:00 AM Dad and boys arrive home, make protein shakes (and a mess). I get to listen to one hour of mornings practice recap, and of course by rule I must have a protein shake after all its a family affair.
11:00 AM Boys want to play catch in the backyard…”Dad can we please work on routes?” there goes another hour and a half only problem? even the dog goes to play football…guess I am running routes too or trying lol.
12:30 PM Lunch time, we have to have protein to get stronger along with lunch because everyone is working on getting stronger and bigger, ahhhhhhhh!! How does my 6 year old know about nutrition?
1:00 PM Husband watches film, works on playbook adjustments, figures out how to create the best opportunities with the mix of kids available, raise money, and how to best utilize 150 different personalities. Who is his sounding board do you ask? Me :), at least the boys are taking a football break….playing basketball in the driveway.
2:30 PM Football count: 3 footballs in the backyard, 1 football in the living room, 2 basketballs in the driveway, 2 kid size cleats in the hall and a solo cleat in the family room, why can’t the pairs stay together???
5:00 PM Family dinner time: Lets discuss some family goals……or talk about football…OK football it is, what little league are we playing for, what number to wear, position to play who is bigger who is faster who is stronger…When do we get to talk about clothes, style, love and world peace????
6:00 PM Family movie time? Yes I think so, and we will absolutely watch a movie with a strong female lead…-Boys “OK lets watch “The Blindside..” didn’t think they could turn that into football but they figured it out….Oh yeah and while we watch the movie there will be no cuddling, we must play several games of chess vs dad which the boys are 0-10,000, but according to dad we have to exercise our minds to right?
9:00 PM Boy bedtime yes its true we have to have a football break before we go to bed…”A FAMILY THAT PLAYS TOGETHER , PRAYS TOGETHER, STAYS TOGETHER…BOOM”
OUR OLDEST MAOR 1ST YEAR DOIN THE FOOTBALL THANG…HES HOOKED!
Yes, this is a typical day oh and by the way its only June, not even football season. Also baby number 4 is on the way, and guess what? you guessed it…its a boy. The boys want to name him Rambo?….Oh my. As I sit here at 10 PM with the husband and possibly “Rambo”, who the boys say I am cooking, I reflect on the blessings and lessons learned today. My boys have played hard today, dad is there best friend and strictest disciplinarian, they know that nothing but there very best is acceptable. They know everything they get will be earned nothing is given. They believe they are capable of conquering the world. Major will always remind me “Mom , remember anything is possible?” haha. They spent more time in the gym today learning to work than most grown men spend in a week. In a world that preaches hand outs and sells quick fixes, I am proud to see my boys learning ownership, dedication, respect, and hard work with their dad as their biggest fan and coach. In our house we work-out hard, we play hard, we dance, we definitely football hard, but above all else we love, support and understand what matters is family.
MAJORS 1ST SEASON OF THE FOOTBALL LIFE!
I wouldn’t trade being the PRINCESS in THE Football house for anything! The world needs more parents working WITH their boys, taking their boys to practice, teaching through example and word the qualities of leadership, ownership, dedication, service, hard work and especially Love. I hope my boys will always remember and take with them forever! Andy is such an amazing Dad and his boys are is Best friends and dream come true. To watch the relationship they all have and his role as a Dad is amazing! Im blessed he’s in our lives.
THANK YOU ANDY FOR..
Giving time not money, not always helping our kids do everything, but allowing them to learn to do things and support them on the journey……Hmmm maybe we can name the new baby Journey?……What do you think? Rambo or Journey ?????
