The best kept nutrition secret is probably food combining. We don’t hear about it very often. Combining the right foods in a meal can lead to optimal health and digestion! Combining the wrong foods can lead to weight gain, bloating, indigestion, heart burn, and other not fun issues. Also many vitamins and minerals can be canceled out when combined with the wrong foods. Like don’t consume dairy with your iron (especially if you are anemic). Dairy interferes with the absorption of iron. Instead try taking your iron with orange juice,  the vitamin C helps your body absorb the iron.

There are many food combinations that work best for losing weight and helping with digestion. Go do some research and find a healthy eating plan that works for you and your situation!

Instead of telling you which foods to avoid eating together (and trust me, it is a long list and honestly a little unrealistic for most of us-like don’t eat protein with carbs -um that is a sandwich or hamburger-all things in moderation right), I’m going to give you a few “dynamic duos” to consider.

Beans and tomatoes!! They work together to boost iron intake! Choose iron rich beans and combine them with Vitamin C pack tomatoes!

Yogurt and bananas!! These two combined help speed up muscle recovery! Think a post workout shake!!

Apples and raspberries!! The two together have some seriously super powers! The antioxidants in raspberries and apples combine to kill off cancerous cells!!

Sweet potatoes and black pepper!! Sweet potatoes are full of beta-carotene that has been shown to reduce certain cancers. Black pepper improves to absorption of beta-carotene in the intestines!!

These are just a few, but there are many different food combos that are super healthy and worth researching!! It takes a little more work to plan meals and figure out what works better together, but if it keeps you healthy and loving life longer it is worth it!!
