We aren’t talking about candy today…sorry. We are talking about something even better!! Eating a rainbow of fruits and veggies is a great way to make sure you are getting all the goodness your body needs. The brighter the plant the more nutrients. We have so much variety available to us that we have no excuses.

The color of the plant gives an indication to what nutrients are inside. If you are curious like I was here is a short list of which colors correspond to which nutrients.

Red is lycopene which is an antioxidant. 

Orange is Beta-carotene which is another powerful antioxidant.

Yellow is Vitamin C and flavanoids.

Green is full of folate

Green-White (like broccoli and  cauliflower) is for indoles and lutein.

White-Green (like onions and garlic) is the allyl sulfides. 

Blue is full of anthocyanins.

Red-Purple (like grapes and plums) are full of resveratrol.

Brown is full of fiber.

Look at all of those great things that can be found in plants. Got try something new today, you may find a fruit of veggie that is healthy for you and you love! But remember, all things in moderation so mix it up a bit and have fun with your food!!
